Two-storey house with very little yard built right up to the sidewalk. House was known as "Curiousity Corner" because it is wedge shaped.
"Curiousity Corner 814 2nd Avenue S.W."This house was built by W. A. Shan, and was called Curiosity Corner because of its wedge shape. Shan had the title to the land from 2nd Avenue north to the river, and when he was in the process of building the house, the city said he would have to cut it short because they wanted the north half of Shan's lot for 1st Avenue. Shan cut the design of the house to stay off 1st Avenue, resulting in its unusual shape. The sidewalk in front of the house was inscribed "A. E. Shan". The house was owned by William Toone from 1928-1978.
